Searcher Reaches Land’s Limits Begins- Fall 2022

First Section- Tuesdays September 13 - October 18, 10:00 AM - 11:45 AM (PDT)

Richard Dixey · June 3, 2022

Mind itself has rarely been the subject of serious observation and sustained inquiry that can reveal a way of understanding that dissolves our problems and blossoms into creative freedom. Tarthang Tulku’s seminal book, Revelations of Mind, is a rare exception, a contemporary teaching for liberating the modern mind. This six-week course will work from Searcher Reaches Lands Limits, an in depth commentary on Tarthang Rinpoche’s Revelations of Mind.

This flagship course at Dharma College explores how we construct experience moment to moment, leading to a sense of constriction and alienation, and how we can allow our innate freedom to manifest in the center of experience. It is also a powerful call for action to heal our emotional and cognitive embodiment and so be released to help others in an increasingly fractured world. Combining core elements of Asian wisdom traditions with modern analytical insight, this seminal work is a life changing experience for all those who engage with it.

What you will learn:

The course investigates how we have ignored just how central our mind is to the quality of our lives by closely observing the operations of mind and learning to befriend it. We will develop a clearer understanding of how mind cognizes, identifies and re-cognizes experience, the role of language plays in reification of the ‘self’ and ‘world’, entrapping us into a powerful regime that perpetuates stress, reactivity and suffering. However, this is not the only way mind can operate; this course is an invitation to a journey that immunizes ourselves from the tyranny of the mind’s regime and opens into new depths of understanding. Weekly lectures that follow a close reading of Revelations of Mind are supplemented with relevant videos, research from cognitive neuroscience, as well as facilitated group discussions and weekly meditative exercises.

A five term course of 30 classes exploring Tarthang Rinpoche’s Revelations of Mind using the commentary Searcher Reaches Lands Limits.

Term 1 course includes:

Week 1: The Central Importance of Mind

Week 2: Understanding the Regime of Mind

Week 3: Language and the Framing of Reality

Week 4: Seeing the Reactivity of Mind

Week 5: Seeing Through the Loops of Mind/ Victims of our own display

Week 6: Questioning Identity

This course is open to all who are interested in the nature of mind, the construction of reality, and human flourishing.

Searcher Reaches Land's Limits by Richard Dixey is available on Amazon or at Dharma College’s Lotus bookstore. (There is no need to purchase Revelations of Mind; it is contained in the Searcher commentary).
