Have you ever felt intensely alive — in touch with the flow of the moment, awake and in harmony? What if you can learn to attune yourself to time so that every instant of your daily life comes to feel more dynamic, vivid, and infused with wonderment? What if you have the ability to feel more spacious, to open to all of your experience, and to relate with others more naturally? Rather than being limited by habitual and dualistic patterns of thought, what if new ways of knowing were accessible to you: a responsiveness that fosters creativity, joy, beauty, and a sense of deep inner freedom? Who among us does not wish to touch greater ease, acceptance, intimacy, and fulfillment?
This course experientially introduces students to the Time, Space, and Knowledge (TSK) vision based on a remarkable series of books by Tarthang Tulku. The longest-residing Tibetan Buddhist teacher in the West, Tarthang Tulku for over fifty years has communicated a path of transformative insights specially suited for modern people. The TSK vision is a secular path of open inquiry, devoid of dogma, systems of beliefs, and traditional religious commitments. This inquiry engages all of our human capacities. The purpose of TSK is to deepen our investigation into the liveliness of time, the freedom of space, and the power of knowledge for use within our ordinary lives. In this class, we draw upon selected parts of many books within the vision of Time, Space, and Knowledge to introduce this path of inquiry to anyone interested. No prior knowledge or background in meditation or philosophy is assumed or expected.
Classes meet online for six weeks, for two hours a week. Classes are recorded and you will have access to the recordings for your personal use only. Each week, there will be a short lecture along with experiential practices and discussion. Weekly handouts will provide inspirational readings and the instructions you need to continue your experiential learning at home. An online chat room gives you the optional ability to meet and dialogue with your fellow students.
Readings will be excerpted as pdfs from the following books:
- Inside Knowledge: How to Activate the Radical New Vision of Reality of Tibetan Lama Tarthang Tulku
